After serving as the frontman for the Sex Pistols, John Lydon, a.k.a. Johnny Rotten, founded the post-punk band Public Image Ltd (also officially known as PiL). This band is widely considered one of the most innovative bands of all time, and their music and vision have earned them 5 singles and 5 albums in the UK Top 20.
PiL's current 2025 tour comes after Lydon thought the band might not need to tour anymore. His lifelong friend and manager, John Rambo Stevens, suddenly passed away after PiL's last tour in December 2023, shortly following the death of Lydon's wife, Nora, in April 2023.
Lydon thought that might be the end of his touring days. However, when he embarked on a 'spoken word' tour across the UK earlier this spring, he was overwhelmed by the love and support from the fans.
Lydon said: “I thought that might be it. After losing Nora and Rambo, I couldn’t see a way forward. I was already committed to the 'spoken word' tour that happened this spring, and I’ve never let anyone down – I always stick to my word – so I had to go ahead with those dates.”
“The thing is, people were so overwhelmingly positive and asked me to tour PiL again. With so many people asking, and so many words about how much the band meant to them, I couldn’t just sit on the couch and not tour – even though that’s tempting, of course.”
Lydon said: “So many wonderful people coming to those shows told me exactly what PiL means to them, so I couldn’t just stay on the couch and not tour.”

With a revolving line-up and a unique sound—a fusion of rock, dance, folk, pop, and dub—Lydon led the band from their debut album, First Issue, in 1978 up to the That What Is Not album in 1992, before a seventeen-year hiatus.
Lydon reactivated PiL in 2009, touring extensively and releasing three critically acclaimed albums: This is PiL (2012), What The World Needs Now… (2015), and End of World (2023)."
